Wheel thrown and hand-built work by Jason Richardson
The shell has a custom LED edison bulb in which the element says ‘home’ this sits atop the crabs shell. The shell is a groggy stoneware clay body, which has been hand decorated with texture which was infilled with manganese and black iron oxides, then glazed with a white glaze. The oxide bleeds through the glaze to give the interesting shell like textures and colours. The crab has been decorated with underglaze and an oatmeal glaze sprayed on top. The item took many weeks to make.
These made to order items are hand built, the hollow shell is coiled using a course clay, decorated with oxides and reactive glazes to achieve the decorative effect shown. The crab is hand sculpted using the same clay as the shell, decorated with underglaze and glazes. The antenna are painted steel.
These are stoneware fired, so are suitable for all weather/ outdoor use.
Each item is made to order to your specification. Price may vary based on size/ detail etc.
This made to order item is raku fired, the white portions are glazed, as are the eyes. The remaining body colour is naturally coloured using carbonisation through the post firing reduction process, therefore finished effect may vary very slightly.

I began making these out of frustration of poor design from commercially available lasagne dishes, which were too shallow to hold enough layers and were difficult to remove these first pieces due to vertical walls.
My design allows for a proper deep lasagne, and easy removal of the food due to slightly more angled walls.
I currently have brown/ pink 4-6 portion dishes in stock, but can make these in most colours of your choosing.
These are stoneware fired, and are microwave and dishwasher safe.
